When we turn on the news to see violence in our schools, when our students are afraid to enter their classrooms, we must evaluate our current policies. As a former soldier and police officer, with thirteen years of law enforcement experience, I know firsthand that the physical safety and well-being of our neighbors is a goal that we can never give up on. Our sheriff’s office and the Wilmington Police Department are working with our local schools to ensure that policies are followed. New Hanover currently has policies in place to prevent these tragedies, and I strongly support the continuing efforts of law enforcement to secure the safety of our schools.
